More often than not they would rather flee or try to barb with "hairs," but they can be defensive if disturbed. Avicularia versicolor is also known as the Martinique pink toe or the Martinique tree spider. They are one of the most popular tarantulas due to their temperament, color and ease of care. Beautiful blue spiderlings morph into multicolor adults sporting green, blue, red and purple hues with pink toes. This docile yet skittish species is not usually defensive and is a good beginner arboreal.

Poecilotheria metallica is also known as the Gooty sapphire ornamental. This extraordinary species from India is known for it's bright blue, yellow and white coloring. Due to it's difficulty to breed in captivity, this rare species is often referred to as the "Holy Grail" of tarantulas.  Poecilotheria are recommended for intermediate and experienced tarantula keepers due to their speed and potent bite however, they are rarely defensive and in most cases would rather flee.

The Orange Baboon Tarantula or "OBT" is a fierce and colorful Old-world known for it's comically bad attitude. Adults will often hold their ground and attempt to scare off intruders with it's threat display of rearing up on it's back legs, smacking the ground and "hissing." Spiderlings are skittish and not yet showing defensive behavior. The one and only "OBT" is in my top 5 favorite tarantula species.
