Rarely available in the hobby this baboon species is beautiful. Pictured is one of the spiderlings available. They're not yet showing that striking and unique adult color. The Mozambique Baboon are known to be one of the calmest of the Baboon Tarantulas and would make a good starter Old World species.

Brachypelma smithi is the "Hobby classic tarantula". Coveted by beginners and experienced keepers alike, B. smithi is one of my personal favorites. Known for being large, colorful and docile this scrub-land species is extremely hardy. Females can live to be older than 30 years. These spiderlings were captive-bred here at Jamie's Tarantulas. Ceratogytus darlingi is also known as the straight horned baboon or the African black horned tarantula. This very unusual species has a black "horn" protruding from the center of it's carapace. The "horn" will will continue to grow into adulthood. C. darlingi can grow to over 5" in length. These un-sexed juveniles have already started to grow their horn.

Native to Malaysia and Singapore this semi-arboreal tarantula can reach nearly 9 inches in length. Juveniles and sub-adults are mocha and cream in color. They blossom into beautiful metallic coloring as adults that ranges from a navy blue to royal purple. Adult males are moss green.

Lasiodora parahybana (Salmon pink birdeater) This is one of the largest of all tarantulas when full grown. Sizes in the norm of 8" leg span and up to 10". It is wonderful to experience the incredible transformation from a tiny sling to an unbelievably massive spider. With each molt its change in size is almost unbelievable. Incredible prey drive the "LP" will not dissapoint come feeding time. The LP is docile yet it can be skittish. Salmon Pink birdeaters are hardy and can make a good first tarantula. The Orange Baboon Tarantula or "OBT" is a fierce and colorful Old-world known for it's comically bad attitude. Adults will often hold their ground and attempt to scare off intruders with it's threat display of rearing up on it's back legs, smacking the ground and "hissing." Spiderlings are skittish and not yet showing defensive behavior. The one and only "OBT" is in my top 5 favorite tarantula species.
